26. Sue Acheson - Food Bowl 1

Sue Acheson fires her distinctive sculptural and domestic ceramics in a catenary arch kiln on her bush block in rural Victoria using wood and clay from the property.
 
Heavily influenced by the environment around her studio and the Australian Bush, the marks on her work are responses to the long strong light and shadow in early morning and late evening - which are enhanced by the wood firing process.
 
Her informed sculptural work is often held together by a unifying image. Sue makes representations of people (in the form of a ball) which are placed in topical situations - politics, the environment, daily life - or whatever is in the news.
 
Sue is also a painter, often working in collaboration with other artists, often on large canvasses, and often in a public place. Originally from the UK, she has lived in Victoria for the past 24 years.
