2024, Woodfired Stoneware, Glaze from melted woodash, 67 x 16 x 16 cm

Born in England, Rob grew up spending time and making pieces in the family pottery studio in Croydon. Victoria. Influenced by the work and ideas of Leach and Cardew, he travelled extensively during the 70s and early 80’s. working in numerous studios making pots, firing kilns and studying. Throwing pots on the wheel and firing with wood continue to be his central focus.
Inspired by craftspeople working within their traditional and the beautiful kilns of Korea and Japan, in 1985, after returning to Australia, he established Gooseneck Pottery and built a five chamber, Nabori Gama style, wood fired kiln at Kardella. This kiln (and other kilns at the Goose) continue to be fired every year.
He has trained apprentices and regularly teaches workshops, speaks at conferences and demonstrates. His work can be purchased from the studio and through galleries. Pieces are represented in public and private collections throughout Australia, USA, Europe and Japan.
