14. John Daly - reCLAYm Vase

2024, Earthenware, recycled glass and copper glaze, 12 x 10.5 x 10.5 cm

John Daly grew up surrounded by his parents’ ceramic practices and the remnant native ecologies and altered agricultural lands of Central West NSW, which formed a deep connection to both creative and environmental forces. After studying a Bachelor of Science in geology and environmental science John reconnected with clay, exploring the link between geology and ceramics, between his formal training and his familial education.

“My ongoing desire to lessen my use of resources has resulted in the development of work made almost entirely of recycled materials – waste clay and reclaimed lustre glaze from my father’s spray booth, broken window and bottle glass, and twisted copper pipe. I also desire to add function to my work, so that, beyond being beautiful objects, they might light up a room and illuminate a new path forward.”
