38. David Pottinger - Green Nerikomi Blossom Jar

Layered, oxide coloured porcelain, 20.5 x 17 cm

Nerikomi is a Japanese word that means to mix in. Coloured Clays (often strained with oxides are combined into a block or layers, which is then sliced to reveal the cross-section of patterns. These pieces then form the wall of the vessel.

David Pottinger is a Queensland-born ceramic artist who completed an Associate Diploma in Ceramics at Kelvin Grove College in 1987 and later a Master of Visual Arts at RMIT. He has presented more than 12 solo exhibitions and participated in over 34 invitational group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Career highlights include representation at SOFA Chicago (2007) and COLLECT at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2008). Pottinger has received numerous awards and grants, including Australia Council New Work Development grants and the Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramics Award. His work is held in major collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, National Gallery of Australia, and National Gallery of Victoria.
